PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A shocking scheme was discovered by Phoenix Police detectives, a murder-for-hire plot cooked up by a valley mother.
The woman is accused of wanting someone to kill her ex-boyfriend, and police say the plan also involved her smuggling drugs across the border.
23-year-old Sierra Lee Simental made her initial court appearance Wednesday; she's being charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree. She allegedly looked for someone to kill her ex-boyfriend, who also happens to be the father of her child.
Phoenix Police say the two were involved in a custody dispute, around September 24, they got information that Simental was looking to hire someone to kill her ex. They setup a meeting with her and an undercover detective. During that meeting, she accepted a contract to smuggle drugs and/or money across the border in exchange for the murder.
During a second meeting on October 13, she gave the detective information on where the victim lived and worked, and where he could be found. Authorities took her into custody after that meeting.
Authorities say during her interview she made incriminating statements, and they tell us the intended victim, along with Simental's current husband were notified of the crime.
Simental is being held on a $100,000 bond; her next court appearance is set for October 21.
