NAU Freshman indicted for murder

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- A grand jury has indicted a college freshman on first-degree murder and assault charges in a shooting at Northern Arizona University.

Steven Jones is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Monday in Coconino County Superior Court.

One person died and three others were injured in the shooting Oct. 9 at the university's main campus in Flagstaff. Funeral services were held Friday for 20-year-old Colin Brough in Annapolis, Maryland.

Police initially charged Jones with first-degree murder in the death of Brough, then downgraded the charge to second-degree murder in a formal complaint filed earlier this week.

Prosecutors took the case to the grand jury Thursday, resulting in the latest charges.

Jones is being held on a $2 million bond.

His attorney, Burges McCowan, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
