TEMPE, Ariz. - An east valley neighborhood was blocked off Tuesday morning following a fatal crash near McKellips and Loop 101.

Authorities say the male driver hit a woman, then took off from the scene. When police arrived, the woman was found lying in the road. She was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, police say the driver returned to the scene and is cooperating with officers. He was the only person inside the vehicle.
It's unknown at this time if impairment was a factor in the case.
Police have not released the driver's name or age. The identity of the deceased is not yet known.
Investigators say there are no crosswalks in the area where the woman was hit.
L-101 exits at McKellips are open but a closure on McKellips means drivers cannot go west from L-101. Use McDowell exit instead.— Arizona DOT (@ArizonaDOT) October 20, 2015
