Pedestrian killed during overnight hit-and-run crash
A pedestrian was killed during a fatal hit-and-run crash on early Wednesday morning.
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -
A tragic hit and run accident claimed the life of a Valley man walking down the sidewalk Wednesday morning. He was hit by an out of control car and killed; the driver then fled from the scene.
"The car hit the trees, it was in the fence," said Kate Rogers.
Rogers says it was after midnight when she arrived home to what can only be described as a horrific scene. A white Oldsmobile Cutlass slammed into the fence of her complex, pinning a man underneath.
Other witnesses were distraught and stunned over what they saw as well. Witnesses reported the driver of the car was headed northbound on 19th Avenue at what they believe to be over 100 miles per hour, before losing control and crossing all lanes of traffic.
Rogers, who is already aware of her surroundings, says she will pay even more attention now about how dangerous this can be after Wednesday's accident.
Phoenix Police are using the vehicle's registration to locate the owner of the car, and identify who was driving.
Traffic was closed during the morning commute while authorities investigated.
