Family members hosted a vigil for a family killed one week ago in a way that horrified this community, and still does.
According to police, a wife and her three children died when her estranged husband drove the car they were in into Tempe Town Lake.
There was a large turnout for Sunday night’s vigil. Family and friends all joined together to grieve the loss of Danica Baxter and her three children. They also had a strong message against domestic violence.
Police say Danica and her children, 3-year-old Reighn, 2-year-old Nazyiah, and 1-year-old Zariyah were killed when Danica's husband and father of the children, Glenn Baxter, intentionally drove the family car into Tempe Town Lake, killing everyone inside.
Danica's grandmother Bessie Britt says her granddaughter was trying to get out of the relationship for her safety.
At the vigil people wore purple and purple balloons filled the sky to show solidarity with the fight against domestic violence. Purple was also Danica's favorite color.
Britt is hoping others will learn from this tragedy before it's too late.
