PHOENIX (KSAZ) - PHOENIX (AP) -- A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman says an elevator shaft motor is what started a fire that resulted in evacuation of a midtown high-rise Friday morning.
Capt. Ardell Deliz says crews arriving at the 28th floor of the building on North Central Avenue in the midtown business district Friday morning found a light haze and the fire already out.
Deliz say no injuries are reported. He says firefighters are evacuating people who sheltered in place on three floors and the rest of the building has been evacuated.
He says building systems engineers are working to restore elevator service so business in the building can resume later in the day.
Dozens of fire units were dispatched to the location before some were recalled when the fire was determined to be out.
