Good Samaritan saves the day for valley family

- A family of seven was saved early Monday morning after a Good Samaritan alerted them to flames coming from their house.

The Phoenix Fire Department says the fire broke out at the home near 28th Steet and Osborn. A family of seven and several pets were inside when a man driving by the home noticed the flames, pulled over and knocked on the door to wake up the family and get them out.

There were no smoke detectors inside the home and crews were originally dispatched after reports of people trapped inside the home.

"There was a gentleman driving by and saw the fire, pulled over, knocked on the door, and woke the family up," Capt. Michael Billingsley said. "That guy did a hell of a job. He's gone and I wish I could thank him more."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
