Firefighters investigate suspicious fire at Cave Creek saloon

- Firefighters are calling a fire at a Cave Creek saloon suspicious.

The fire started early Thursday morning at the  the Buffalo Chip Saloon located at 6811 E. Cave Creek Road.

The saloon was supposed to hold a Thanksgiving feast and football fans were eager to watch the Packers-Bears game.

Investigators with Phoenix Fire are looking into whether someone intentionally set the blaze. There were two fires at the restaurant, the first around 6 a.m. that was small and another four hours later which burned down the saloon.

The saloon had been a fixture in Cave Creek since 1951, it was a place where lifetime memories were made.

"Lot of firefighters are fighting this fire right now, we fell in love here, learned to dance here, eat here, it's an iconic restaurant and very heartbreaking to see it go," said Colin Williams with Rural Metro.

Nearly 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, because no one was inside the crews battled the fire from the outside. Crews had difficult getting enough water to the blaze.

In a message posted on their website, the Buffalo Chip Saloon says they will be temporarily closed due to the fire.
