Man killed at west Phoenix party early Sunday

Phoenix Police say a young man was gunned down and killed at a party in Phoenix early on Sunday morning.

A house party near 91st Avenue and Indian School turned deadly around 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Fox 10's Courtney Griffin spoke to the woman who rents the home and says she feels responsible for deadly shooting.

“I got to my front door, heard the gunshot and some lady was screaming and everyone just scattered and kind of disappeared,” said Makayla Sandoval.

Sandoval lives across the street from this home where a large party got out of control last night.

“Let's just say…my driveway was blocked and so I couldn't even pull into my driveway,” Sandoval said. “The whole street was filled with cars.”

Cathy Bane rents the home. Her 22-year-old son was having a party and she left to go to the bar with her friend.

Before leaving she asked a young man and his fiancé to watch over the home since her son is a paraplegic.

“They were here and they helped me out to secure the house…make sure I told them every one had to be searched…purses everything padded down, all that,” said Bane.

When they returned home, the party had grown to about 150 people and a fight between two girls had started outside the front door.

“I stood in the middle and said uh no,” Bane said. “I told the girl you need to go, this is my house and I don’t want anybody else here.

Shortly after that confrontation, a gun was fired.

“The partiers were in the backyard when they heard the gunshot go off. “When they came to the front yard they saw the young man lying right here in the driveway.”

“I just heard paw, paw, paw and I was in the backyard. I was telling them get in the back, someone is shooting and I ran back out here and when I looked he was on the floor.”

Victor Limas says he tried to help the young man.

“He was already uh, uh, uh, aspirating…trying to grab and I was like uh, I was the last person to hold him.”

The young man was shot and killed.

He was the same man they had asked to help secure the home. Kathy says though she doesn't face any charges, she feels responsible.

“I feel totally responsible for it; trust me this is going to be hard for me to live with.”

We have not learned the victim's name and police have not yet released any suspect information.

If you have any information about other people who attended this party, please contact police.
