The valley's Jewish community gathered tonight to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah.
A grand menorah lighting took place this evening at Tempe Public Library.
Chabad of the East Valley teamed up with the city to host the event.
Before the seven-foot-tall menorah was lit, the rabbi spoke to the crowd calling this year the 'Year of Unity.'
"This entire year represents this idea of people coming together in a unifying manner and celebrating their religion together," said Rabbi Mendy Deitsch.
Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell also attended tonight's celebration.
The holiday lasts for a total of eight days.
