- A domestic violence situation ended with gunfire at a valley apartment complex overnight.

The Phoenix Police Department tells Fox 10 that a SWAT team was called to the scene near the Loop 101 and Thunderbird late Sunday night after gunshots were fired in an apartment with four people inside.

After arriving on the scene, three people came outside, but one man remained inside. The SWAT team moved in after he refused to come out.

"When they were getting the subject out, a couple shots were fired," said Brandon Shepard, a spokesman with Peoria police. "Officers stepped away and we contacted our SWAT team, who came out."

It's unknown what started this incident, but police say the man inside the apartment shot himself.

The incident is still under investigation.
