Romney appears at re-election rally for Sen. John McCain

- Senator John McCain is running for his sixth term in office, and former presidential nominee Mitt Romney was by his side on Saturday to show support. McCain has gained the support of 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

The two men spoke to hundreds of supporters at a rally in Mesa on Saturday. "I really like how he understands what america stands for and what we have to do in the world to make it a better place. This is a senator who is critical for our country," says one person attending the event.

They touched on hot-button button issues like national security. McCain says the U.S. needs to review policies for allowing Syrian refugees into the country. "For example, the way that this one woman got in through a fiancée program has to be reviewed. We have to look at the visa waiver program. and I'm not saying that we can never resume some of those programs."

We asked the governor and senator who they're siding with in the upcoming presidential election.  Neither one said much about Republican front-runner donald trump. but Romney did leave him off his list of people he'd support.

Several others, including former State Senator Kelli Ward, are running against McCain for his Senate seat.  If he wins, McCain will face fitzpatrick in the general election.
