Snowy weather closes schools in northern Arizona; rain hits the valley

Snow is falling in Northern Arizona and valley residents are waking up to rainfall on Monday.

- Snow fell in the higher elevations across the state and valley residents woke up to rainfall on Monday.

Snow covered the high country over the weekend and it continued to fall early Monday morning. Due to the snow, all Flagstaff Unified School District schools are closed until Tuesday.  The city is expecting another 8 inches of snow overnight.

Schools in Prescott faced a two-hour delay due to adverse weather.

In addition to school closures and delays, the winter weather if forcing some road closures in the high country. 

As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service reported that Flagstaff had received over five inches of snow.

Meanwhile in the valley, light rain began to fall in the morning and it is expected to continue throughout the day.

In other parts of Arizona snow was falling, including near Globe.
