- The Phoenix City Council has recommended the approval of applications from Starbucks which would allow the chain to serve alcoholic beverages as part of its "Starbucks Evenings" brand.

The Evenings menu includes wine, craft beer, and a selection of small plate food.

The chain applied for liquor licenses at four of its coffee shops in Phoenix, but not everyone was on board with the plan.

The Phoenix Police Department told the city council they are not recommending the locations get the licenses. The reason being Starbucks is applying for a restaurant liquor license, and the chain does not meet the definitions of a restaurant.

Starbucks Evenings is a concept that the Seattle-based coffee chain wants to bring to Arizona. It would include wine and craft beer sales, along with some food items.

The company hopes to bring the evenings concept to the Arizona Center, 7th St & Osborn, Camelback & 16th St, and 28th St and Indian School Road locations.

Last month Scottsdale approved the licenses for three locations in their city.
