About 600 inmates involved in Yuma prison disturbance

The Arizona State Prison Complex in Yuma is under lockdown Thursday night, after a disturbance that officials say involved about 600 inmates.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Corrections, inmates at a medium-custody unit attacked prison personnel at around 6:45 p.m. The inmates reportedly threw rocks, set fires to mattresses and other property outside on the yard, and broke into a prison health unit.

ADC officials said quick response and tactical teams from prison complexes at Yuma, Lewis, and Tucson worked to bring the disturbance under control at around 9:00 p.m.

All employees, according to ADC officials, are safe and accounted for. An investigation is underway.
