PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A Christmas tree is believed to have sparked a fire last night that may have ruined one family's holiday. But not if their friends have a say in it. An online campaign hopes to raise funds for the displaced family.
The fire ripped through the Phoenix home, the family Christmas tree went up in flames, the family huddling outside quickly learned their car did not make it.
It all happened at a home near 91st Avenue and McDowell Road.
Now loved ones are hoping to turn the loss around and have started a GoFundMe.com page where there have been a few hundred donations, dozens of shares, and a mountain of love for the five residents forced from their home.
Phoenix Fire says crews saved 50% of the home, but it could have been worse if not for a working fire alarm which alerted those inside.
Firefighters across the valley have used demonstrations to remind everyone of how dangerous Christmas trees can be. That means using the right lights like LED bulbs, keeping the tree watered, and cutting off the stump.
