65-yr-old man killed in west Phoenix hit & run crash

PHOENIX - Police are investigating a deadly hit and run accident in the area of 43rd Avenue and Whitton.

According to Phoenix Police spokesperson Sgt. James Holmes, a 65-year old man, identified as Jose Vera, was crossing 43rd Avenue at Whitton Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle. Witnesses describe the vehicle as a gray or Dodge Caravan-style vehicle that was northbound. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect vehicle did not stop on scene, and witnesses say the driver's side headlamp was out.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
