7-Eleven clerk pulls gun on armed suspect in Gilbert

A Valley 7-Eleven clerk has a scary tale to tell after a crook entered the store and pulled a gun, but the clerk pulled his own weapon and chased the suspect out of the store.

"Where did you shoot him at?" asked the police officer.

"I followed him behind the building and when he turned, I shot him," replied the clerk.

The video from the robbery foiled back in November is stunning. Gilbert Police released body camera and surveillance footage showing a clerk remaining as calm as he could minutes after shooting a man who tried to rob his store at gunpoint.

"So when he turned back to you, you knew he had the gun?"

"..I already knew he had the gun, yeah. I was in fear of my life already. The minute he showed the gun, I feared for my life. I wasn't sure what he was going to do."

Around 2:45 p.m. on a Wednesday, the clerk knew something wasn't right.

"The store was busy. He came in and he had his hoodie on. I could tell you from experience that I had a weird feeling about it."

Take a look at the surveillance video. The suspect points the gun at the clerk, who scrambles to the back. The suspect turns to leave the store, but then the clerk re-enters the frame holding his own weapon. You can see the suspect turn back and see the weapon. From there, he bolts out of the store and the clerk goes after him.

Minutes later, police and first responders had him in custody while they treated him for a gunshot wound to his back.

Back in the store, the clerk tried to come to grips with the though of his life flashing before his eyes."
