- Some people would say that football and beer go hand in hand. Now a local brewery has come up with a new red brew just for the Arizona Cardinals.

Brewed right in Phoenix at the North Mountain Brewing Company is a red ale like none other.

"It's an American red.. has a fair amount of malt with a good dose of hops. It's backbone has caramel malt, which gives it it's red color, but it has a decent amount of hops, so it's not by any means an I.P.A.," said Robert Berkner, owner and head brewer of North Mountain Brewing Company.

Berkner created the beer for his beloved Arizona Cardinals football team, appropriately naming it Cardinale Red.

"I'm in Arizona native. I've lived here all my life. When the Cardinals came to town, I quickly adopted them as my home team. They've been my only team ever since," he said.

Berkner says die-hard fans will drink nothing but.. "We like to call it the officially unaffiliated beer of the Arizona Cardinals."

He hopes the team appreciates the namesake as much as he does their dedication on the field. Berkner is hopeful he can toast the Cardinals with a glass after they win Sunday.

"Honestly, I've been a Cards fan from way back when they weren't doing what they're doing now and it's just one of those things," he said.
