Mesa Police made a quick arrest after a woman's body was found lying on a sidewalk early this morning.
A woman's body was found lying on the sidewalk off Drummer and Dragoon Street. Someone driving down the road alerted police just before 5:00 am.
“When they arrived, they did discover a female that was laying on the sidewalk here in front of a residence and she had some obvious trauma,” said Detective Steve Barry with the Mesa Police Department.
Barry says the woman was pronounced dead on scene. He says the woman’s body was found in front of a home and multiple people were inside that home.
“Everything that has unfolded so far is isolated to this particular house and there's not an immediate danger to anyone else in the area,” said Barry.
“It's a lot of family groups are here because there's a school right down the road and it's usually really quite and a really friendly area,” says Ryan Ebersole, who lives right down the street.
“Investigators are obviously on scene now and they'll being going through the crime scene conducting interviews and trying to piece back whatever led to this early this morning,” said Barry.
Police have identified the woman killed as 40-year-old Maria Valdez-de Campagne. Officers say she was stabbed to death by her cousin Cindy Campagne, who now faces one count of second degree murder. Right now, investigators still don’t have a clear motive for the murder.
