- Police say a suspected drunk driver crashed his car into a valley apartment complex overnight.

The Phoenix Police Department tells Fox 10 that the car crashed into the fence of their apartment complex near 17th Avenue and Purdue. After crashing through the fence, the car then drove onto a sidewalk, hit a transformer and crashed into a tree.

The driver's wife was also in the car at the time of these crashes. She was on a sidewalk when police arrived and she was treated for minor injuries.

Police suspect the man driving the car was drunk and when officers arrived at the scene, he was nowhere to be found. Officers later found him inside his apartment, where he told police he was asleep.

The suspect was arrested and has been charged with aggravated DUI, criminal damage and child abandonment. Police say the couple left their 15 and 5-year-old children at home Wednesday night when they went out to drink.

A tow truck is on the scene to remove the car and the investigation is ongoing by police.
