PHOENIX (KSAZ) - It was a frightening weekend for a family in Laveen; they found a bullet in their home Saturday morning.
As they investigated, they realized how close it came to their youngest son's bedroom.
The Tallabas family was shocked and angry that someone would fire at their home, they have lived in the relatively new subdivision known as Roger Ranch near 45th Avenue and Baseline for about two years now, and it shook them up to have this happen now.
Next to a picture of the Last Supper in the Tallabas' family kitchen is where the bullet entered the home. Armando Tallabas said he and his wife speculated it was around 3 a.m. Saturday that someone shot into their home.
"I can tell that bullet is either a .38 or a 9 mm," he said.
It went through the kitchen window, and Tallabas says you can see where it lodged in their next door neighbor's exterior wall.
"Probably got caught in there because she says there is nothing showing over there," said Tallabas.
They reported the incident to police; he says his wife is more angry than frightened, and he's confident it was not someone targeting his family.
"If they really wanted to they could have shot up my van if we were getting targeted they could have done something like this. It was kids walking by, they shot their gun, and they just booked it running," he said.
The kind of thing that could shatter their peace of mind, but he says they love their house in Laveen, their community, and love raising their family here.
"Two years here, no problems, nothing, and then this just out of nowhere it's random," said Tallabas.
Tallabas says this has certainly made him more aware of neighborhood safety. He says he will definitely be more proactive about calling the police to investigate anything he spots around their neighborhood that is out of the ordinary.
