Phoenix Police are still investigating what led to a deadly shooting in South Phoenix. A 17-year-old died, and two others were hurt after a gun fight erupted in an apartment complex.

Officers say two groups of young men started shooting at each other during a drug deal. But there remain a lot of questions into what happened, and it is unsettling for residents in the community.

A dramatic scene unfolded late Thursday night. "Two guns went off like a war zone," said Jerry Richards.

Investigators say it was a drug deal gone bad, leaving a 17-year-old dead. Another man was critically injured and remains hospitalized in stable condition. A third man was also taken to the hospital.

Detectives say the teen shot and killed was at the complex with another man. Then a group of three men arrived, and the two groups got into some sort of dispute before it turned deadly.

Police arrived to find two of the men hiding in a bush, police detained one of the men, but he has since been released, it's unclear which of the men fired the guns.

Residents are now concerned for their safety. One resident spoke to FOX 10 but did not want his face to be shown.

"As you get old you pray that another individual, that they would find something better for them to do, than a wanna-be gangsta," said the resident.

Now the residents are hoping the police find answers into what led to gun violence near their homes.

Police are still investigating what happened; a search warrant was issued Friday afternoon to one of the apartment units inside the complex.
