Officers from the Surprise Police Department have arrested two people in connection with the double homicide that occurred almost two weeks ago.
You may remember that 70-year-old Barbara Leslie of Surprise and her friend 75-year-old Ruth Schwed of Albuquerque, NM were shot and killed inside Leslie’s home February 9th.
Leslie lived in the area of 15500 West Agua Linda Lane, in Surprise.
On Friday, February 19, Surprise Police apprehended Andrew Thomas Lauro, a 24-year-old man from Goodyear, AZ, for his involvement in the recent murders, according to SPD's Norm Owens.
Additionally, since Andrew Lauro's arrest, the investigators traveled to Michigan, located, and arrested a second suspect, Montez Lavell Wright III, a 23-year-old man from Southfield, Michigan.
Andrew Lauro has been charged with two counts of 1st- degree murder, two counts of armed robbery, and one count of first-degree burglary.
Montez Wright is still in custody in Michigan and awaiting extradition back to Arizona where he faces the same charges.
The Surprise Police would like to thank the FBI, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office in New Mexico, the Southfield Police Department in Michigan, and the public for all their help in bringing these two men into custody.
At this time, the detectives will be working closely with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office as they continue to proceed through this investigation.
