The Arizona Department of Transportation is at it again with their catchy phrases on their overhead message boards...this time targeting Spring Breakers.
They tell us March is the deadliest driving month of the year, and the more people they can remind to drive carefully, the better.
ADOT says these messages aren't only geared towards the young spring break crowd, but really everyone.
ADOT tells us over the next few weeks thousands of people will take to Arizona roadways for Spring Break getaways and the hope is to get the conversation going about safe driving.
"Huge fan, I'm always like mom did you see the sign this week,” said Lissette Moreno. “Star wars, and the peas and guac one was my favorite."
ADOT is keeping with tradition, creating more fan favorites and releasing new quirky phrases on the highway overhead message boards.
The Spring Break themed slogans are now illuminated....one reading, “Spring Breakers...Does your mom approve of your driving?”
"If your mom is wondering what you're doing, you're going to think I better pay attention to that." "It really makes you stop and think, mom wouldn't be approving of this speeding or not. They are a good reminder," says Moreno.
Another sign reads, “Spring Breakers...Slow your roll...Arrive alive.”
"It's not just slowing your car; it's slowing your way of operating,” says Steve Elliot with ADOT. “Slowing things down, making good decisions and beyond that, that speaks to speeding, which is a big cause for traffic fatalities in Arizona."
Elliott says all jokes aside; the topic of safe driving is no laughing matter.
From 2012 to 2014, March was the deadliest month on Arizona roads with a total of 213 fatal crashes.
"This is a message for everyone, regardless of your age,” says Elliot. “We want to grab people's attention and get them thinking about driving safely, not drinking and driving and not speeding and buckling up."
Elliott says the main goal of these messages is to grab people's attention so they can be reminded to drive carefully, because if you don't it could cost you your life.
As always the phrases for upcoming holidays are already in the works.
