Man killed, teenager injured at Phoenix Halloween party

- Police say one person was killed and a teenager was injured when gunfire broke out at a large Halloween party early Sunday morning in west Phoenix.

Offices arrived at the scene of a party near 67th Avenue and Van Buren at about 4:15 a.m. Sunday morning, as many people were trying to flee the area.  Phoenix police spokesperson Officer James Holmes says they received reports that someone began firing shots from an unknown weapon, and people who were attending the party "began to scatter and run."

As many as 400 people were attending the Halloween gathering.

Officers say a 24-year-old man was shot at the party and pronounced dead at the scene.  Police also say a teenager suffered non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound in his lower body.  The teen was driven to a local hospital.

One woman we spoke with who attended the party says party-goers were advised to duck for cover before the gunfire erupted.

Police are now interviewing possible witnesses at the scene.  Parts of 67th Avenue remain shut down on Sunday while police investigate.
