Man arrested after allegedly abducting woman and two children

SURPRISE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Surprise Police have caught a man accused of abducting his two children and their mother. Police say the suspect made threats to kill the woman and her children.

Police issued an Amber Alert on Saturday and were searching for a red 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck with the Arizona license plate BLX-0530.

Police say 32-year-old Heriberto Mendoza assaulted 25-year-old Alexis Escalante and forced her into his red Dodge Ram pickup truck. They say Mendoza also took her 3-year-old child and her 5-year-old child into the truck before leaving. Police also say Mendoza had made threats to kill the mother, Alexis Escalante, he 3-year-old boy, Heriberto Escalante-Mendoza, and the 5-year-old Danna Escalante-Mendoza.

The red Dodge Ram truck the accused abductor was driving stopped near 27th avenue and Cactus. Police say Mendoza fled from the truck leaving behind the mother and the children, and then forced a driver of a white Dodge charger to exit the car.

Police caught up with Mendoza soon after that on Saturday afternoon. He is now likely facing several charges, including kidnapping.
