Monsoon storms blanket the valley, cleanup underway

Yet another round of strong monsoon storms have brought strong wind and rain to the valley.

The storms rolled through downtown Phoenix around 7 p.m. Monday evening.

Strong wind toppled power lines, leaving close to 9,000 people without power.

Power poles were knocked down near 12th Street and Indian School near a canal.

Flooding was seen all along Lincoln between 32nd and 40th Street in Paradise Valley.

The FAA site shows that flights were delayed out of Phoenix Sky Harbor by 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes because of the storm. Flights by 8:45 p.m. returned to normal schedules.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall was heaviest in the north Phoenix area with some parts receiving 0.84 of an inch of rain followed by the Tatum wash and 40th Street, which received 0.86 of an inch.

Cleanup crews are making their way through the valley repairing downed power poles and cleaning up fallen trees.
