Apple's iPhone X for $999: Is that too much for a smartphone?

It was the day Apple fans have been waiting for. The tech giant unveiled three new iPhones, including the priciest one ever.

The iPhone X will run just under $1,000 and the device will have a screen with higher resolution, lose the home button to make room for the display and Apple is also offering the ability to unlock the phone with facial recognition rather than a fingerprint or passcode.

iPhone 8 will cost $699 and iPhone 8+ will run $799.

Granted, they're not really phones, but pocket computers, cameras, music players and so much more. The Swiss Army Knife of technology, but the do-it-all marvel, that is the top of the line iPhone X, is now puncturing the thousand-dollar barrier. Is that just too much for a smartphone? Apple is betting that we are nowhere close to that point.

September 12 is a day that may be remembered more than any other day in recorded human history. The debut of the iPhone 10 (Roman numeral X) and the world awaits breathlessly.

Okay, that might be a bit over the top, but for Apple fans, that's how big a deal this event was. Staged at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple's mind bending new headquarters in Cupertino, California.

The star of the show, the iPhone X. The screen goes all the way to the edges of the phone, like Samsung's, as Android users will remind you. The super-sharp new screen and camera -- no button to push. It has Face ID -- look at it to unlock it. High tech with a human touch -- Apple style.

Well, now you know all about the phone and everything it can do. The question is, will you buy it?

"I have an iPhone 7 currently. It works good. Don't know if I would buy it right away.. the new expensive iPhone, but I like to stay updated, so I will probably want to get it soon," said Megan Meier.

"I mean, I spent $200 to update this.. I think I paid $600.. monthly bills.. I don't think a phone is worth that much," said Mikaila Moore and Vanessa Ruiz.

Alex Roudebush added, "A thousand dollars, I mean it is something I would take out loans for. Definitely not doing it."

Will people be willing to shell out $999 for starters? Guess we'll find out.

The new Apple phones go on sale November 3. There is also a new Apple Watch and an upgraded Apple TV.
