SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - Meet Deuce!
The 11-year-old was found roaming around Phoenix last year until Maricopa County Animal Care and Control found him.
The 50-pound American Stratosphere was picked up by Forever Loved Pet Sanctuary, a senior-only animal rescue, and has been living in a foster home for the last several months.
"He's a little more reserved, not high maintenance at all. He doesn't expect a lot of attention, he just wants to be near you," Jennifer Geis said. "He's so comfortable now, he's so happy. He's always been full of energy though. He's a runner. You'd never guess that he was 11."
From Phoenix to the Big Apple, Deuce traveled by plane, train and automobile all in one day where he was the only dog from Arizona to participate in the network's effort to bring awareness to the need to adopt older animals.
"We applied to be in [the] Dog Bowl and thought we'd throw our hat in the ring and see what happens," said Drew Eastmead of Forever Loved Pet Sanctuary " [We] didn't expect to hear anything back and then out of the blue they said, 'we'd love for deuce to compete.'"
Now back home in the Valley, Deuce isn't letting his age slow him down but hopes his gentle soul and dog kisses will land him a forever home soon.
