QUARTZSITE, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Department Public Safety says three people are dead after their vehicle collided head-on with a wrong-way vehicle on Interstate 10 in western Arizona.
DPS spokesman Raul Garcia says the wreck occurred Saturday on westbound I-10 near Quartzsite when a vehicle used an exit ramp to enter the freeway and then collided with another vehicle about 500 feet (152 meters) from the exit ramp.
Garcia says the wrong-way driver was taken to a hospital. Information on the driver's condition isn't immediate available and no identities were released.
According to Garcia, "impairment has not been ruled out."
The Arizona Department of Transportation says a detour will re-route westbound traffic off I-10 onto Vicksburg Road and U.S. 60 before returning to I-10.
ADOT says the detour is expected to remain in place through Saturday afternoon and that drivers should allow for extra travel time.
Eastbound traffic is unaffected.
