PHOENIX (KSAZ) - There have been lots of questions for parents and students, in case a teacher walk out happens in Arizona, and many of those questions involve things outside the classroom, like meal programs and school sports.
Since Spring sports are still in session, so many people might be wondering what will happen if the walk out happens. According to the Arizona Interscholastic Association, they don't foresee it being a major issue come Thursday.
"A lot of the coaches will still be around," said Seth Polansky, Sports Information Coordinator with the AIA. "They'll still be fully functioning with their teams and be able to lead their teams in whatever they do. Some districts have teacher coaches where their contracts are separate, or they are together but have separate perimeters within them, so the teacher portion of that person may participate in the potential walk out whereas the coach portion of the contract, whether it be exclusive or part of it is completely separate. They can still coach their team, travel with their team, take care of everything they need to come this post season without repercussions from the school district, and without it interfering with what they have coming up."
According to the Phoenix Union High School District, varsity sports will continue, but all others will be canceled. Varsity sports would be the only teams participating in post season play.
Polansky says all post season plan are still on schedule with no changes.
