PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Arizona's Attorney General is trying to improve relations between Arizona and Mexico.
Attorney General Mark Brnovich recently returned from the trip meeting with Mexico's law enforcement officials.
While there, he also met with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
Brnovich admits that the United States government needs to do more to protect the border.
He believes it is vital for both countries to share the responsibility to combat drug and human smugglers.
"We're neighbors with Mexico and we know there is a lot of cartel activity. We know a lot of human smugglers use those routes, so it is important for us to be on the same page to coordinate that ability to cooperate across state and international lines," said Mark Brnovich.
Brnovich also met with the Sonoran Attorney General to discuss safety in and around Rocky Point, a popular tourist destination.
