Arrest made in deadly Mesa hit-and-run

MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Maricopa County authorities have made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run in Mesa.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says 56-year-old Robert Hutson was taken into custody Thursday at a home in Apache Junction.

An anonymous tip led investigators to find evidence they say links Hutson to the accident.

Hutson has been booked into Pinal County Jail on one count each of failing to stay at the scene of an accident with injury and tampering with evidence.

Authorities say a car fatally hit a pedestrian March 10 on West Southern Avenue near South Meridian Road.

Deputies say Hutson was previously charged with a hit-and-run in Mesa in 2002. He also has a prior record of impaired driving charges.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.
