ASU girls go on worldly adventure in Europe

TEMPE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - One hundred and sixty-five teams from around the world were selected by Red Bull to go on a worldly adventure.

"You can always backpack Europe, but you can't always backpack Europe with your two best friends with no money or cell phone in this insane competition," ASU student Caira Button said.

Several Arizona State University girls were up for the challenge.

"I wanted top-three really bad, but we got top-three of the U.S. teams," ASU senior Emily Poes said.

They placed 12th overall, but they were the number one all-girls team.

The team traveled to five countries in seven days with Red Bull as their only commodity to give people who fed and housed them.

"It was a lot of human kindness, people would see us and we had the advantage that we were three girls and they'd be like, 'You guys can't stay outside at night, that's not safe,'" Button said. "They were really kind."

It wasn't easy with only five hours of sleep a night and very little food.

"There's time when we really didn't have food," Poes said.

The girls say it was an adventure of a lifetime and made memories they will never forget.

All for free.

"Favorite memory?" Boes asked. "Being at the bottom of a waterfall in Switzerland that was like artic cold and just being there with my two best friends."

They even recommend it to others.
