Baggage claim area inside Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor evacuated due to 'suspicious' bag

The baggage claim area inside Terminal Four at Sky Harbor International Airport was shut down and evacuated late Sunday night after a suspicious bag was found.

Police say a passenger reported seeing the unattended bag at the west end of the baggage claim area.

After a police officer looked inside the bag, there appeared to be a suspicious item inside, so the bomb squad was called into the scene and all passengers were told to move up to the second level of the terminal.

Only the baggage claim area was evacuated. Passengers at the gates and pick-up and drop-off curbs were not affected.

After the bomb squad move in, an all-clear was given by police just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night.

Airport officials say the suspicious bag turned out to be a false alarm and they have found the passenger it belongs to.

Officials will not say what was inside the bag that was deemed "suspicious."
