PHOENIX (KSAZ) - The rumors are true!
On Wednesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that legendary singer-songwriter Billy Joel will perform his only show in Arizona at Chase Field this spring.
"Billy Joel is very excited," said Derrick Hall, D-backs president and CEO. "It's going to be his first baseball stadium he's ever performed in in Arizona. He knows it's a first for us, it's a first for him. We're excited that the collaboration is going to work.
Because the D-backs now control all ancillary events at the ballpark through their new company, Arizona Diamondbacks Events and Entertainment, the team is able to add a new and larger revenue stream for fans, and host big events and performances, like Billy Joel.
"I think it also sends out a nice wave to the rest of the world that this is a serious concert venue as they're touring in the summer and now that we're going to have synthetic grass, it shouldn't effect the playing surface negatively, so we can have a lot of concerts during the season as well," Hall said. "So I think it's just perfect timing for this announcement."
Tickets for the concert go on sale on Friday, December 7 at 10 a.m.
