TUCSON, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Officials say one Border Patrol agent was hospitalized after multiple agents were assaulted by illegal immigrants near Tucson.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a 25-year-old Guatemalan national was arrested after he threw dirt in an agent's face and tried to assault an agent by swinging his belt on November 27.
Officials say the suspect will face charges for assaulting a federal agent.
The agents were trying to stop a human smuggling attempt south of Three Points. Three other men, including a Mexican and Guatemalan national and Arizona man, were also arrested.
Later that day, another Border Patrol agent was assaulted while trying to arrest an illegal immigrant. Officials say the agent, along with a K-9, tracked the 36-year-old suspect to a remote desert area where the suspect struck the agent several times.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody by the agent. The agent was taken to a hospital for evaluation and has been released.
This suspect will also face charges for assaulting a federal agent.
