Buckeye Super Heroes host annual Christmas Cause

BUCKEYE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - It's the busiest time of the year for Santa, but sometimes he needs a little extra help. That's where the Buckeye Superheroes come in.

A Christmas Cause is truly an event for the community sponsored by the community.

"Everything that you see here today including gift cards, wrapping paper, everything is donated," said Buckeye Super Hero Don McWilliams.

For five years, qualified low-income families are pre-registered and then let loose in the gym where they have the freedom to shop for their children and take home a box of holiday foods.

Don says the ability to choose the gifts is what makes this event so unique.

"It gets very personalized, and you can just see the difference in their faces and the pride they have because I'm mom or I'm dad and I picked that out for Johnny or Suzie and it's amazing to watch the parents come through," said McWilliams.

One of those parents is Christine Craft, a volunteer with Buckeye Super Heroes for the last three years. Christine says volunteering with the organization is one of the biggest joys in her life.

"Words don't describe how it feels to make sure other people get fed so their kids don't go hungry," said Christine Craft.

Christine is also picking out a present for her daughter, Kamayie, also a volunteer, who says she's happy to give back to those in need.

"It helps other kids get presents when parents can't buy presents for their kids and it helps us give back to the people in need," said Kamayie.

Don says that's what the holidays are all about, being there for each other.

"This is a time they look forward to, they dress up, they wanna come out because this is their time to give back to the community," said McWilliams.
