Burton Barr Library celebrates summer solstice

- The Burton Barr Library in downtown Phoenix celebrated Thursday's summer solstice with its annual watch party.

"This building is designed to place us in the universe, and the sun is at the center of that, and that becomes the organizing point of what you are about to experience," says Will Bruder, the architect that helped design Burton Barr Library 23 years ago.

Watching the summer solstice is not only a tradition for the library. but also for the community. Some even say it's a once a year opportunity to see art in a different light.

"It's a fabulous opportunity to see architecture in motion, as I call it," says Kaz Wilder, a summer solstice viewer.

For those who see it for the first time, it was a chance for them to get to see the new and improved library after it was closed due to flooding last year.
