PHOENIX -- Phoenix police are trying to identify a man who abused and killed two cats after breaking into a pet boarding and grooming business near 13th Avenue and Dunlap.

Take a look at the surveillance video. Authorities say the crime happened less than two weeks ago on Friday, March 4th just before 4:00 a.m. at the Planet Petopia store.

Officials say the suspect cut a hole in the business' cat enclosure, removed the cats and killed them by repeatedly stomping them. The man then threw away the cats in a nearby dumpster and walked away from the scene.

"He removed two of the cats and ended up physically abusing them causing enough injury that they ended up dying," said Detective Kim Neiss.

The owner of the facility says the cats were eye-catching and he thought they were stolen.

"I don't think they could think of a worse crime, maybe a crime against a child, but I can't think of a worse crime," he said.

The suspect is wanted for both commercial burglary and animal cruelty.
