City councilman files $100k claim against ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A city councilman who was injured after the mascot for Arizona State University jumped on his back has filed a claim against the school.

Tempe city councilman David Schapira has filed a $100,000 claim against the university for back injuries he sustained after 'Sparky' jumped on his back during a football game. At the time, Schapira was recovering from back surgery when the mascot jumped on him.

ASU has since apologized to Schapira for the incident.
