Cochise County chaplain accused of sexual abuse in county jail

BISBEE, Ariz. (KSAZ) -  Officials arrested the Cochise County Sheriff's jail chaplain on charges of sexual abuse, sexual assault and unlawful sexual conduct in a correctional facility after a county jail inmate claimed an "inappropriate incident" occurred involving the chaplain.

Doug Packer, 63, was taken to Cochise County Jail early Saturday morning on a $25,000 bond.

"Chaplain Packer was in a position of community trust and based solely on his actions and poor decisions, he violated his sacred oath of office and took advantage of those who truly depend on him in their time of need," said Cochise County sheriff Mark Dannels in a statement.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's office at (520) 432-9500.
