Coconino County deputies involved in shooting near Parks, one man dead

PARKS, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- The Coconino County Sheriff's Office confirms its deputies were involved in an armed confrontation leading to an officer-involved shooting, killing one man.

The shooting happened on May 11 at 1:13 a.m., on a stretch on County Road 141 south of Parks.

CCSO says deputies were called to the Pine Aire neighborhood after receiving a report of domestic violence from a woman saying her ex-husband had pulled a gun on her during an argument at their home. She told deputies he left the house in a white car.

Deputies came across a car matching the description parked along CR 141, 4 miles away from the home. The man, 43-year-old Paul Mcvicker, exited the vehicle with a handgun. He ignored commands to drop the weapon prompting one deputy to fire rounds from his patrol rifle.

Investigators say the suspect was hit by at least one round and fell to the ground. Deputies attempted to render aid but Mcvicker died on the scene. No deputies were injured. The deputy involved in the shooting was identified on Monday as Deputy Tyler Stoppe. In accordance with standard policies and procedures, Deputy Stoppe has been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation.

Sheriff's officials said the shooting was captured via a department-issued Axon body camera.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the Northern Arizona Officer Involved Shooting Team, with the Flagstaff Police Department taking the lead.
