Concrete wall no match for storms in Phoenix neighborhood

Storms ripped through one part of a neighborhood, taking out an entire concrete wall.

Jason Engstrom says the wind was so loud last night he didn't even hear a wall in his backyard toppling over at around 7:00 a.m.

"It took me by surprise and it did because you never think this is going to happen to you, so it was pretty scary, actually pretty amazing," he said.

His surveillance camera captured the toppling wall.

"It was really howling, it got my attention right off the bat," he said. "It was just shaking and it made me look outside and I was like I'm not going out there. That's how windy it was."

But when he did go outside, he saw party of the wall lying on the sidewalk and his sheds off the foundation.

"To my amazement, the wall was gone and so [I] came out and investigated it and the debris was everywhere," he said. "It was pretty amazing."

Engstrom says now all he can do is start cleaning up.

"I'd like to say I'm a nice guy, I don't think I deserved it, but you know things happen for a reason and thank God I have insurance and it will be covered and I will just get back to where I was in the beginning," he said.

Jason says a palm tree was actually leaning over so much that he thought it was going to snap and fall on power lines. Though it didn't happen, he still has a lot to clean up, but he says it could have been a whole lot worse.

APS and SRP responded to several power outages across the valley because of the storm.
