Cottonwood man killed in crash with UPS truck

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. (AP) -- A Cottonwood man has died after the pick-up truck he was driving struck a UPS truck.

Cottonwood police say the collision happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday on State Route 89A.

Investigators say the 78-year-old man may have had a medical condition or emergency that led to the accident.

According to a witness, the man was slumped over the steering wheel as his truck began to go across eastbound traffic lanes.

The witness says the front of the truck then hit the rear tires of a UPS semi-truck trailer, which was traveling westbound.

The pickup then came to a stop on a sidewalk.

Police say the man was taken to a hospital but pronounced dead.

The UPS driver was not injured.

The man's name is being withheld pending family notification.
