PHOENIX (KSAZ) - There is a battle brewing at the Phoenix City Council, it involves a proposed new charge for companies that pick up and drop off passengers at the airport. This includes companies like taxis and shuttle vans.
The Aviation Department wants to charge ground transportation companies every time they pick up passengers, with fees ranging from $4 to $11.
The Council voted this Summer to allow Uber and Lyft to pick up riders from the airport. With that included a fee for ground transportation companies to pick up and drop off customers. A cost to those companies which could rack up to $500,000 per year.
The council voted 5-4 to approve the new fee.
FOX 10's Marc Martinez attended the meeting and has this report.
