Court Documents: Steve Keim sentenced to jail, fines

CHANDLER, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- Arizona Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim will spend some time in jail, after he pleaded guilty on charges related to a DUI incident.

Keim was arrested over the Fourth of July weekend. According to the arrest report, Keim told police officers he only had two beers and ate pizza two hours before he got pulled over, but officers said they smelled alcohol on Keim's breath and he had slurred speech. Keim also refused to take several field sobriety tests, but did consent to have his blood drawn.

Documents released by Chandler Police Tuesday show Keim had a blood alcohol content of 0.193 at the time, based on blood samples collected. On Tuesday, Keim was suspended by the Arizona Cardinals for five weeks, fined $200,000, and ordered not to return to the team until after he has completed counseling, evaluation, and a DUI education course.

According to court documents released Wednesday, Keim is ordered to pay a fine and additional fees totaling $3,342, and serve 30 days in jail. However, court documents state that 21 of those days will be suspended, conditional upon Keim equipping any car he operates with a certified ignition interlock device for a period of 12 months.

For the remaining 9 days, court documents state that Keim will serve two days at the Maricopa County Jail, and the remaining seven days will be served on Home Detention, beginning on July 20.

In addition, Keim is ordered to enroll in drug screening, and complete an Impact Panel with Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Keim will also appear in court on August 30, in order for a judge to determine any further education, counseling and/or treatment requirements.
