Police say the body of a man who was visiting Arizona from England was found on Camelback Mountain near the Cholla Trail.

Phoenix police say the body of 56-year-old Stephen Vanderhoeven was found in a steep area of Camelback Mountain on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators learned Vanderhoeven was visiting the valley in search of a specific species of lizard and failed to return home to England after arriving in Phoenix on June 10th.

Vanderhoeven contacted a friend in England on June 12th but had not been heard from since.

On Tuesday afternoon, a police air unit was searching an area near Camelback and Invergordon Roads when they discovered Vanderhoeven's body lying in an area on Camelback Mountain.

Investigators say the victim's body had obvious signs of injury when it was found and there were no indications of foul play.

Police also say it appears Vanderhoeven had water with him while hiking on the mountain.

The manner of death is under investigation by the medical examiner's office.
