Customers card info stolen by gas pump skimmers

- Inspectors have found more card skimmers at five gas pumps across the valley. So far officials have no idea how long they have been there, or how much credit card information may have been stolen.

There is no easy way to spot the devices and victims are not aware their credit card information was stolen until it was too late. Their credit card companies caught onto the scam and alerted the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures.

"You can still get gas, you can go through, and there is no idea if it was by the business or the consumer," said Michelle Wilson.

Two skimmers were found at the Circle K near 59th Avenue and Bell Road.

"It is a criminal element, they are shady, they are organized, and they are out to rip people off," said Wilson.

While the pump may look normal from the outside, inside is where the thieves typically put the skimmer.

"There is a little device that is all taped up in gray tape that matches the wiring, so it is pretty difficult to find, they are getting sneakier and sneakier with this," said Wilson.

In addition to the two found in Glendale, the state found three more last week, all at Circle K's at Tatum and Greenway and 32nd St and Cactus.

The Department of Weights and Measures have inspected more than 1,100 gas stations this year. The latest discoveries mark a major spike, bringing the total number of skimmers discovered this year to 15.
